As part of Science week Transition Year students visited the local factory BD to see what goes on.
Students were given a tour of the plant, learned how the devices which BD produce for angioplasty, and treatment of dialysis and cancer, are made, and had an opportunity to insert a guidewire, catheter, balloon, and stent, into a 'patient'!
The enthusiasm and passion of the staff of BD for the work they do in the manufacture of such lifesaving products, was very evident, and may well inspire some of our students to pursue a career in the Medical devices sector. A special thanks to Ms. Trudy Byrne who organised the event and all the staff at BD for their time and sharing their knowledge with the students.
