On Thursday 12th of January twenty-four Transition Year students travelled to the BT Young Scientist competition in the RDS. While initially there are over 2,000 projects submitted these are further reduced following selection to 550 which are on view in the RDS.
There was such a wide variety of areas covered and some of the popular ones included the impact of AI on everyday life, how much grade inflation occurred in different schools during Covid-19, uptake regarding the new recycling scheme for bottles, experiences of students with additional educational needs in secondary schools and the viewpoints of students relating to the mobile phone pouches that will be introduced next year.
During the two hours students got to see how Science impacts on all aspects of life and the wide variety of career opportunities for those who decide to study in the Science field. On the way home students got the opportunity for some retail therapy in Dundrum shopping centre. A special thanks to Ms. Trudy O’Byrne for organising the educational trip to Dublin.
