On Friday the 14th of March Enniscorthy Community College received the Belong To Quality Mark. This means that our school has been assessed and it deemed a recognised safe space for our LGBTQ+ Community. This accreditation took two years of hard work, training, policy making and making the necessary changes to receive The Quality Mark.
On the day, four students from our LGBTQ+ students committee accompanied by Natalie Doyle (Quality mark team) and Anne- Marie Lillis (SNA) attended the ceremony at The Royal Marine Hotel. Hosted by James Kavanagh, we were welcomed to a rewarding, fun and quite moving day. Students participated in a panel, a chance to voice the importance of The Quality Mark to them. Moving speeches were made, songs were sung and certificates received, a very memorable day marking our school taking a strong stance for our LGBTQ+ community.
One important message that came from the day was that by looking after the marginalised minorities in our schools, it ensures a safe space for the whole school community. We will be working hard to ensure the up keep of our Quality Mark, which gets reassessed to ensure we meet the standards set out.
