Leaving Cert Biology students visited Carnesore Point on Thursday 19th September to complete their required Field work.
The thirty two students enthusiastically undertook the 5km round trip to our chosen spot in this amazing ecosystem. Many wet feet, soaking socks and leaky wellies later, they had completed the following mandatory activities:
A site map and description, measurement of abiotic factors which influence species distribution, identification of a range of plant and animal species, and their adaptations to respective habitats. As the tide ebbed, students conducted two quantitative studies - measurement of frequency of chosen species, and percentage cover along a belt transect from upper to lower shore.
So enthusiastic were the students that time did not allow for a much anticipated visit to the playground in Our Lady's Island - definitely worth a revisit!!
Very well done to all the students on a great day's work, and sincere thanks to Ms. Trudy O'Byrne and Ms. Danielle Mulligan for accompanying and helping the students on the day.
