Fifth and Sixth Year Higher Level English students will travel to the FCJ school on the 23rd of February to attend a talk given by Irish poet Paula Meehan a poet currently on the precribed Leaving Cert course. This is an excellent opportunity to meet in person Paula Meehan and pose whatever questions they may have. A special thanks to Mr. Daly the Principal in FCJ for facilitating the trip and also to teacher Ms. Paula Doyle a teacher in ECC who assisted greatly in organising this wonderful experience for the students.
Paula Meehan was born in Dublin, living on Sean Mc Dermott Street for part of her childhood. She went on to study English and Classics at Trinity College, Dublin. In 2013 Meehan was installed as Ireland’s Professor of Poetry (three year tenure) by Michael D. Higgins, a prestigious position which recognises a poet’s substantial contribution to the Irish literary canon. Paula Meehan is regarded as one of Ireland’s greatest living poets.
