ECC Music students flying the Fleadh flag.
The newly formed ECC trad group ‘Ceoil’ was invited to perform at two venues on 7th August at the recent All Ireland Fleadh in Wexford. Having stormed Westgate Tower for a rehearsal, they advanced upon the sunny Seachtain na Gaeilge stage in Selskar ,playing an acoustic set. Hosts were ECC Irish teachers Darren Ó Ceallaigh agus Bríd Gallagher. Second concert of the day was in Gig Rig 2-Ardán na Sláine where they displayed their selection of reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas, songs as Gaeilge and English, including atmospheric slow airs and a rousing Galway Girl. A large contingent of the ECC community, including proud family members, provided a rapturous reception for the young players in both venues.
The students (who committed to several rehearsals over the summer) were singers 1st years Áine Treacy and Roisine Leacy, 3rd Yr Kayla Murphy: Guitar and Keyboard, 5th yrs Andrew Kehoe: Double Bass, Ric Jones: Bouzouki, Guitar and solo singer and Shannon Murphy: Fiddle and mandolin. Shannon chose and arranged the selection of trad tunes performed on the day, as well as performing on the main Gig Rig for the opening ceremony of the Fleadh.Additional support was provided by teachers Serena Casey: Trad Flute, Brídín Kelly: Fiddle and Tin Whistle and Danielle Mulligan :Harp.
Special guest was 10 year old Maisie (Shannon’s little sister) as suprise dancer in the final set of polkas.
