20-November-24
Science Week

There were a wide variety of activities going on during Science week and these included:

On Monday Ms. Somers had fun experiments on show in her classroom at break time. On Tuesday in conjunction with Science Foundation Ireland, Ms. O'Byrne's Fifth year Biology students enjoyed an online webinar entitled 'Meet the Scientist', an interactive discussion with digital creator Shanice Griffin and special-guests working within the fast emerging Irish Space Sector. On Wednesday all first year students attended a presentation called 'Meet the Scientist: How can a concert create a mini earthquake? Eleanor Dunn a PhD student in seismic activities shared her insight into how Taylor Swift's Dublin concerts triggered seismic activity that was felt as far away as Wexford. On Thursday the Agricultural Science students and Junior Cycle Science students engaged in class with Kahoot competitions. The week ended with Ms. Mulligan bringing in pygmy goats who provided great entertainment for the students. At the end of the week there were prizes given out to students for things like the daily riddle and the colouring competition. A special thanks to the teachers in the Science department: Ms. O'Byrne, Ms. Somers, Mr. Finn and Ms. Mulligan for organising the activities throughout the week.
