Wellness Week at Enniscorthy Community College: "All Activity Counts"

Last week, from May 6th to May 9th, Enniscorthy Community College celebrated Wellness Week with the theme "All Activity Counts." The week was filled with engaging activities aimed at promoting physical, mental, and social well-being among students and staff.

Daily Walks and Breaktime Activities

Each class had the opportunity to enjoy time outside every day, taking walks to refresh and rejuvenate. Breaktime was bustling with activities in the Junior Resource Area, including Wall Sit, Limbo, Skipping, and Sliders. These activities were expertly run by our enthusiastic Transition Year students.

Lunchtime Fun

Lunchtime offered a variety of exciting activities such as Hang Tough, Basketball free throws, Rugby penalties, and Soccer penalties. Additionally, dance classes were provided for exercise and fun, adding rhythm and movement to the day.

Library Challenges

The library was a hive of activity, hosting daily challenges like Lego building, chess, puzzles, colouring, and board games. These activities fostered creativity and strategic thinking, making the library a popular spot throughout the week.

Fun for All

Students enjoyed a range of fun activities, including Crazy Golf, Air Football, and giant versions of Noughts and Crosses and Connect Four. These games brought laughter and camaraderie, ensuring everyone had a great time.

Juice and Chat

A special initiative called Juice and Chat was organised by our 5th Year Leaving Cert Applied class. This dedicated time allowed students to sit and talk together in the Parents' Room, free from the distractions of phones and technology, fostering meaningful connections.

Workshops and Lifesaving Skills

On Wednesday, all first-year students participated in a drumming workshop, which was a hit and filled with energy. Second-year students learned vital lifesaving skills, including how and when to perform CPR and how to use an AED machine.

Staff Activities

Our staff also stayed active, utilising the schools state-of-the-art Fitness Suite before school, playing pool and table tennis in the staffroom during breaktime, and enjoying a delicious breakfast together on Thursday morning. Some of our staff managed to enjoy time in our PLCs Hair Salon on Tuesday under the direction of the course directors.

Fundraising for Pieta House

The Student Council organized ice cream sales on Friday at lunchtime, raising funds for Pieta House. This initiative highlighted the community spirit and commitment to supporting important causes.

A Positive Atmosphere

The atmosphere throughout the school was positive, happy, and engaged, with a focus on all aspects of staying well. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all teachers, SNAs, and students for their enthusiastic participation and support. Special thanks to our Senior Management for their unwavering support and to Ms. Jennifer King (Wellbeing Coordinator) and to all staff who assisted in making Wellness Week a success.

Wellness Week at Enniscorthy Community College truly showcased that "All Activity Counts," bringing our community together in the spirit of health and well-being.
