Creative Writing Club

The Creative Writing Club was established by Ms. Éadaoin Quinn, Librarian and Ms. Jessica Doyle, English Teacher in 2013. The club builds on the strong tradition of creative writing at ECC, most notably the success of two former students Peter Murphy and Joseph Murphy, both of whom were students of our former and late colleague, the respected English teacher, Ms. Mary Wheelock.

In recent years, the club has been recognised at national level with students’ work published in the Irish Times, placed in The Hot Press Young Writers Competition - judged by Roddy Doyle - and along with one of our student’s poems selected for an English textbook to be used in line with the new Junior Cycle.

The club meets once a week after school every Thursday from 3.30 - 4.30 under the guidance of Ms. Granniah O’ Neill and our Librarian, Ms. Éadaoin Quinn. During this time, the aim is to encourage and support writing, with occasional visits from guest authors. The environment within the club allows students to enjoy exploring various genres from sci-fi to rap and poetry. We facilitate members from 1st to 6th Year.
