The aim of the Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) scheme is to promote partnership between home, school and the community to ensure that every child participates fully in school life. It fosters a sense of trust between the students, the parents and the school. Enniscorthy Community College recognises the important role of parents and the home environment and seeks to promote a partnership between school and parents.
Home School Community Liaison Coordinator
As a DEIS school, Enniscorthy Community College has a full time Home School Community Liaison Coordinator - Ms. Aileen Walsh - whose role is to work intensively with and support parents/guardians. The overarching goal of the HSCL Coordinator is to improve educational outcomes for children through their work with the key adults in the child’s life. The HSCL Coordinator also supports families as their children transition from early education to primary school, from primary school to post-primary school and finally from post-primary school to further and higher education, training or employment. The HSCL Coordinator works closely with the Parents' Association in ECC which is affiliated to the National Parents' Council Post Primary.
Home Visits and Parent Classes
Home visits are a central and essential part of the coordinator’s work. Home visits raise parent’s expectations and aspirations for their children’s future and, in many instances, their own. Some of the direct outcomes include improved attendance, increased contact with the school, and co-operation with teachers. Parents become aware that schools and teachers are more accessible. In addition, HSCL Coordinators organise parent classes in the relevant school/s and provide information and guidance to parents/guardians with regard to accessing community-based programmes and supports. The HSCL office is located in the Parents’ Room which is in the Senior Resource Area of the college.
