Enniscorthy Community College is one of the very few schools in County Wexford to have its own library. The library is staffed by full-time professional librarians, Ms. Mary Flynn and Ms. Ann Rooney and works in conjunction with a national network of librarians in the JCSP Library Project. The link to the website is JCSP Libraries with the main aim to promote literacy and numeracy in schools.
Students of Enniscorthy Community College have access to SORA which is our digital library. This amazing resource is free and can be accessed by students and staff anytime, anywhere. SORA is an online library of eBooks and eAudiobooks and has over 14,000 titles with multiple copies of books and magazines so you never need to wait to borrow a book. There are new titles being added all the time, with many books available in a wide range of languages. Click here to find out more about SORA JCSP Libraries-Digital Library . The SORA app can be downloaded to a PC, a laptop or Smart device so you can easily access your book. It is only a matter of contacting one of the librarians to get your unique code to access SORA and get on with your reading. If you are already registered all you have to do is click here to get reading Sora App.
Students also have access to another online resource called Accelerated Reader and use this on ipads in the library. This resource motivates students to read more through engaging quizzes, goal setting, and personalised recommendations. As students increase their reading volume, they develop greater reading stamina, word recognition, and language comprehension skills.
The school library is also very active at lunchtime and there are different things that students might like to do readily accessible. Students can play chess or other board games, they can browse the wide variety of books on offer or can read for pleasure. Improving literacy and numeracy is tied in very much with the schools DEIS plan and the library is one of the important interventions that assists this.
